It was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. The section between CP CORN (a location just south of Corning, New York) and Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania, was part of the Tioga Railroad, opened in 1840 to connect Blossburg, Pennsylvania, with the Chemung Canal at Corning. Trains carried 15 to 20 passengers a day from Cherryvale. A part of the road between East New York and the ferry was for many years run as a street railroad, and the part between Jamaica and East New York was run for about ten years as a leased line of the Long Island Railroad Company. A number of locomotives were entered, including Novelty, Perseverance, and Sans Pareil.
